Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is a technology for automating the exchange of business information between companies in standard formats.  Purchase orders and invoices are probably the most commonly exchanged business documents, but other document types can be handled as well.

Davenport Technology Services has developed a modular EDI software system which is based on the award-winning Joomla! Content Management System.  This provides an advanced web-based user interface to the EDI software so that users with different experience levels can manage the application with ease.

Our EDI application, called Skylark EDI, is a GPL-licensed Joomla!™ component.

We have particular experience in developing EDI interfaces for garden machinery dealers and we have successfully interfaced our EDI software with proprietary platforms, such as IBM MQ Series, as well as X12-like systems that interact using FTP, mail (SMTP and POP3) and web (HTTP and HTTPS) protocols.  We have successfully integrated EDI systems with such household names as Honda and Electrolux as well as companies such as Briggs & Stratton that are well-known in the garden machinery sector.
